Privacy

During consultations, the psychologists record information about you to help them remember what you have said and to use this information to assist in planning treatment. If you have been refered by a medical professional, it is standard practice, and a Medicare requirement to write back to that person. It is also sometimes helpful for us to write to or contact other professionals involved in your care. This is done with your permission.

The information recorded is kept confidential.

There are times however when there are limits to this confidentiality.

We respect the privacy of people under 18 years of age, however, the information you give us might be discussed with your parents/guardians without your consent if it is regarded necessary for your ongoing safety.

If we have concerns about your safety, or the safety of others, we are required by law to do whatever is necessary to ensure the safety of all. This might mean sharing information you have given us.

In some circumstances, the information in your file might be subpoenaed by a Court of law. It is then necessary to comply with the subpoena and to release the file.
